Nothing embodies a South Florida afternoon more than lounging poolside in a backyard covered by a lush tree canopy, offering just the right amount of shade. As one ventures south of Coconut Grove along Main Highway, deeper and deeper into a part of town that was once merely overgrown tropical fauna and mangroves riding the shoreline, a stimulating neighborhood appears out of the bush. Now, a botanical oasis filled with hidden gems; lovely ranch style, mid-century homes. Unlike the Art Deco or Spanish style architecture more commonly found in South Beach, in the lush neighborhood known as Pinecrest, curious mid-century homes are tucked away behind the local fauna. During the 1950s and 60s, locals looking to escape the city headed south and hired architects that built spacious ranch style homes with symbiotic relationships to their lot space. Many of these homes are focused around their backyards and green spaces. The homes are heavily characterized by their large sliding glass doors that encompass a subsequent portion of the house, creating a unique indoor/outdoor experience.
